Michigan is world famous for its ties to the auto industry and any list of Michigan’s top employers includes several businesses in the auto industry. On the list of best employers to work for in Michigan published by Zippia in 2019, major auto manufacturers like General Motors and Ford Motor Company were included, along with several other companies like Federal Mogul, Meritor, Roush, and Denso International America. Crain’s Detroit also cited FCA USA LLC and Magna International on their list of largest Michigan employers for 2019.
Healthcare
In 2019, the list of largest employers in Michigan published by Crain’s Detroit included 8 health care systems in the top 25, outnumbering the number of auto manufacturers and suppliers combined. On the 2019 Crain’s list, Trinity Health, Spectrum Health System, Beaumont Health, McLaren Health Care Corp., and Detroit Medical System were all included. Zippia also included health systems like Beaumont Health, McClaren Health Care, and Detroit Medical Center on their 2019 list of the best employers in Michigan, but also included other hospitals like Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw, MI and Metropolitan Hospital in Wyoming, MI.
Furniture Manufacturing
Grand Rapids, Michigan has earned the nickname of “Furniture City” thanks to the many furniture companies headquartered there. Rightplace.org cites office furniture manufacturers like Herman Miller, Steelcase, and Haworth as being some of the largest employers in West Michigan in 2020.
